Well, the next wave of Microsoft commercials is loose. When MS said it was going to go after Apple more directly, they weren’t kidding.

These ads are not as clever as Apple’s Mac vs. PC campaign.  And they are not as entertaining as the Gates + Seinfeld ads.  But lots of people use PCs to do interesting things and these ads do challenge the stodgy cubicle-dwelling spreadsheet-loving image posited by the Mac vs. PC ads. While Apple ads mock PC users in order to goad them into switching to Macs, these commercials encourage PC users to take pride in what they do.

I like the feel-good vibe. I like the international mix of faces and places. But I don’t think people will talk about these ads the way they talk about Mac vs. PC or even the Seinfeld ads. There will be a phase 3 so we’ll see what comes next.
